Paper is not all created equal and neither is the weight of a business card. For business cards, there are two standard weights of paper, Point (pt) and Pound (#).
Business cards with a 14pt paper weight are probably the most common but if you want to have a slightly firmer and thicker card you could move up to 16pt. It all depends on how you
want your card to feel.
A paper with a shiny coating can help protect your cards and provide a more professional appeal to the final product. A coating also adds contrast to your brand’s colors and gives bright solid colors a beautifully lustrous appearance. In some cases an uncoated card can be the better choice. If your business’s color scheme is predominately black or a very dark color, an uncoated option might look better. An uncoated card also gives you an option to write on them without having the ink smear.
